Wedding DJs
With the stiff competition out there, it can seem daunting to choose the best wedding DJ for your special day. The following tips are designed to help you weed out the less-than-desirable wedding DJs and find one that will keep your party going in grand style.
Word-of-mouth is king
People love to talk, and when they find something good, they like to spread the word. Ask your married friends if they recommend their DJ, but don’t stop there. Ask your friends who have attended a wedding recently if they would recommend the DJ from a guest’s perspective. You can’t beat an honest opinion from a trusted friend when it comes to choosing wedding vendors.
References, please!
Wedding DJs want your business. And because of that, they want to prove to you that they are the best person for the job. In advance of your event, the best way they can do that is to provide you with references from past clients. Get at least three references before making a decision. Ensure that the references are from wedding clients; a DJ may put on a fantastic high school prom, but he may not have the particular savvy needed to make a wedding reception memorable.
You should be in the driver’s seat
Wedding DJs should take requests, both from you in advance of the wedding (in the form of a “must play” list) and from the guests during the reception. Steer clear of any DJs who seem reluctant to do either of these things; they may insist on having too much control over what music is played. Similarly, if the thought of listening to the Macarena makes you turn green, ensure that your prospective DJ will respect your wishes, even if a guests insists on hearing it!
Personality counts
It doesn’t matter if your wedding DJs play only your very favourite songs if they don’t have the kind of fun, outgoing personality that makes a wedding reception fun. Remember that your DJ isn’t just there to spin the music. In many cases, the DJ leads the crowd in some games, introduces the newly married couple, and notifies the guests of important information. You want to make sure that you are hiring a person who can handle that aspect of the job with panache; no one wants to listen to a stranger drone on when they could be dancing! |
